Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and each week there is a new suggested topic for bloggers to participate in. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books I Bought/Borrowed Because…
Rather than pick one category and choose ten books within that one category, I have decided to select two or three reasons I bought these books and list two or three books per category.
Books I bought/borrowed because of the beautiful cover:
- The Bees, by Laline Paull
I mean, come on, who could resist that cover?? Not me!
- The Snow Child, by Eowyn Ivey
Winter is my favourite season, and this cover design is just so stunning, I couldn’t help myself.
- The Silence of the Girls, by Pat Barker
I don’t think I need to explain why I picked this book up. The fact that it fitted into my reading challenge last year was just a bonus.
Books I bought/borrowed because of the author:
- The Ambassador’s Mission, by Trudi Canavan
Trudi Canavan is one of my all-time favourite authors. Her Black Magician series first captivated me with her rich characters, well-developed world and so much imagination. Now I would genuinely buy anything she has written, without even needing to read the synopsis first.
- I Am Malala, by Malala Yousafzai
Having heard Malala’s inspirational story, I could not wait to pick up her autobiography.
- The Taxidermist’s Daughter, by Kate Mosse
Rummaging through the collections at my local secondhand book sale, this author’s name jumped out at me, I had read her Labyrinth previously, so I bought it! And loved it!
- TransAtlantic, by Colum McCann
After reading and really enjoying Let the Great World Spin, I was intrigued to pick up one of McCann’s other works. I just finished reading this one and I really enjoyed it.
Books I bought/borrowed because of bookstagram:
- One for the Blackbird, One for the Crow, by Olivia Hawker
I had been seeing this book all over bookstagram and reading some really great reviews, so I just had to buy it. And it definitely did not disappoint.
- Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
This book had been recommended to me a lot, and when I saw it all over Instagram, that was just the extra incentive I needed.
Books I borrowed because I bought them for someone else as a gift, whilst secretly wanting them for myself:
- Becoming, by Michelle Obama
Bought this book for my sister’s birthday, really wanted to read it, so I did before she did! Oops!
What would be your top reads for these categories? Share your picks or your own categories in the comments! Happy reading!
The Snow Child was an amazing story! And I liked Becoming, too.
